Drag Reducer

PT Beta Pramaesti Asia

Drag reducer is a chemical (additive) that is added to a fluid (usually oil or water) with the aim of reducing the friction (drag / friction) of fluid flow in the pipe.

How it works

  • When fluid flows in a pipe, turbulence is usually formed which adds drag.

  • Drag reducers, usually long-chain polymers or special surfactants, work by changing the structure of the turbulent flow to be more regular (laminar-like) so that friction is reduced.

  • As a result, the flow rate increases for the same pump pressure, or conversely, the pump pressure can be reduced for the same flow rate.

Benefits

  1. Increases pipeline transportation capacity without having to increase the diameter of the pipe or pump.

  2. Saves energy, as the required pump pressure is reduced.

  3. Operational efficiency in the distribution of oil, fuel, and also water in pipelines.

Usage Examples

  • Transportation pipeline for crude oil and refined products.

  • Fuel distribution pipelines.

  • High-pressure irrigation systems.

  • Chemical industry that requires transportation of liquids with a certain viscosity.
