Definition
Water treatment ancillaries means ancillary components that help the main water treatment process to be more efficient, safe, and compliant.
This term includes supporting chemicals, equipment, and control systems that are used with the main system such as filters, RO (Reverse Osmosis), or boiler feed water systems.
Common Types
-
Chemical Ancillaries
-
Coagulant & Flocculant → aids in particle settling (e.g. alum, PAC, polymers).
-
Scale Inhibitor & Antiscalant → prevents scaling in RO/boiler systems.
-
Corrosion Inhibitor → protects pipes/tanks from corrosion.
-
Biocide & Algaecide → kills microorganisms in cooling tower.
-
pH Adjuster → balances the acidity of water (e.g. NaOH, H₂SO₄).
-
Dechlorinator / Oxygen Scavenger → removes residual chlorine or dissolved oxygen that can damage equipment.
-
-
Equipment Ancillaries
-
Dosing pump & chemical tank → for automatic chemical injection.
-
Monitoring sensors & controllers → measure pH, TDS, ORP, conductivity, etc.
-
Filter housing, filter cartridge, UV system, etc.
-
Application in Industry
-
Boiler feed water treatment
-
Cooling tower water treatment
-
Wastewater treatment plant (WWTP)
-
Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant
-
Chiller system maintenance
Purpose of Use
-
Maintain the efficiency of the water treatment system
-
Extend equipment life
-
Reduce maintenance costs
