Lamella Settler (or Lamella Clarifier) is a clarifier used in water and sewage treatment processes to separate suspended solids from liquids more efficiently.

Here is a more complete explanation:

Basic Definition

Lamella Settler is an inclined plate settler that uses lamella plates to expand the settling surface area without requiring a large area.

The aim is to accelerate the settling process of solid particles from water or sludge, so that clear liquid can be separated more quickly at the top.

Working Principle

  1. Water enters the bottom of the lamella unit.

  2. Inside are a series of inclined plates (usually at an angle of 45-60°).

  3. Heavier solid particles will:

    • Settle on the surface of the plates.

    • Slide down to the bottom (hopper).

  4. The clarified water flows up to the top and out of the system.

Main Components

  • Inlet zone - where the water to be treated enters.

  • Lamella plates - inclined plates to increase the settling area.

  • Sludge hopper - a place to collect sludge or solids that have settled.

  • Effluent launder - clear water outlet.

Advantages

  • Small area compared to conventional clarifier.

  • High efficiency (up to 4-6 times faster than conventional systems).

  • Easy maintenance.

  • Can be used as a retrofit to increase the capacity of an old clarifier.

General Application

  • Drinking water treatment (water treatment plant).

  • Industrial wastewater treatment (WWTP).

  • Mining industry.

  • Domestic and urban sewage treatment.
